Spot Detection

Spot detectors are the most commonly used fire detection devices available. There are two basic forms of spot detectors, heat and smoke. The defining characteristic of a spot detector is that the sensing elements are located at distinct point throughout the protected area. The device may be a simple as a bi-metal strip or it may have built in electronics to perform signal processing and communications to a control panel.

Heat Detectors

Heat detectors are generally one of two types, fixed temperature or rate-of-rise. When the sensing element of a fixed temperature detector exceeds a set point, the device goes into alarm. Rate-of-rise detectors respond more rapidly as they anticipate that a temperature level will be reached by measuring how fast the temperature is changing.
